new and fresh styles, and pinning beauty to each project on the merits of it's corporate goals and
individuality.
Not only will your unique custom website be remembered, it will be user friendly and state of
the art. The sites I produce are fast loading, tableless, easy to maintain, resolution independent,
and coded correctly using the W3C recommended mark-up language, XHTML.
XHTML in combination with CSS is an evolutionary step of the HTML
mark-up language, and is my preference for rendering designs as they were intended to
look.
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
The benefit of this CSS/XHTML relationship, firstly, is that CSS helps
to separate content and structure from presentation and layout. Content can be changed independently
of formatting because presentation and layout are handled in CSS. This also means
that presentation and layout can be changed for any number of pages linked to the external style
sheet (CSS document). The significant benefits for accessibility is selection of
styles without having to modify the source document, and the ability to readily verify that the source
documents work with assistive technologies before applying the styles.
XHTML
The benefit of XHTML is that it's based on XML and follows all
of XML's rules. That means, off the shelf XML parsers can be used
to manipulate the XHTML content into other formats - which, can't be done as easily
with regular HTML. XHTML is served as HTML(IE
6 doesn't understand XHTML documents with the right MIME-type), the XHTML document,
can at any time, switch the media type over to application/xhtml+xml.
Tableless
Included in my workflow for delivery of your coded design, is the use of CSS for
layout. If there's tabular data, then tables are used or, unless otherwise requested. I've developed
for myself over time many cross browser/cross platform tested CSS layout methods
that I employ for building better, more accessible, flexible and functional websites.
